FAQ’s

When can I apply for VALT or other introductory youth programs?

Each fall, winter/spring and summer new programs begin.  You can find specific information and a pre-registration form on our APPLY NOW page.

What age do I need to be to participate in VALT or Free Wall ?

Youth artists from ages 12 to 21 are eligible for all of our programs. Youth under 18 are required to include a parent or guardian’s information during the application process.

Is my student eligible to be enrolled in VALT if they live outside of North Minneapolis?

Yes. Youth at JXTA come from all over the Twin Cities Metro.  We do, however, give priority to those who live, go to school, or have other relationships in the Northside community.

Do I need to attend all of the sessions in order to complete the VALT Workshop?

Students are expected to attend every single session. If you are unable to attend a session, you will need to give notice directly to your instructor.

Do I get paid to be in VALT?

No. Students in VALT are not paid.

What is a JXTA Apprentice and how do I become one?

After a youth artist successfully completes VALT, they are eligible to apply for a paid position as an apprentice in one of the four JXTA Labs. They can work on a wide variety of projects with other Lab participants and instructors – projects like public art design, screen printing, contemporary art pieces for exhibitions, community murals and more.

Is transportation provided?

Bus cards are provided for JXTA program participants who need transportation to and from VALT and Free Wall. Check in with Jared in recruitment if you’ve misplaced yours or need funds added to it. His email is jared.hanks@juxtaposition.org.

Do JXTA programs close for weather emergencies ?

When Minneapolis Public Schools are closed or after school programs and events are cancelled for weather or other city wide emergencies, Juxtaposition Arts will also be closed. If you should ever have any questions or concerns or you just are not sure, please feel free to contact us at 612-588-1148 or email to info@juxtaposition.org.

Who do I inquire with about creating a mural or a public art piece?

Our Business Operations Director is the first point of contact related to hiring an artist for special projects. Send Justin Kirkeberg an email at justin.kirkeberg@juxtaposition.org.

Do you sell art?

Yes, we sell art. You can contact Justin again, regarding all purchasing inquires at justin.kirkeberg@juxtaposition.org.

Do you work with adult artists?

We engage adult artists who work with youth through our artist and residency programs, and by providing space to both emerging and established artists who have a demonstrated commitment to North Minneapolis, through the 1108 Artist’s Co-op space. We also regularly hold space for public programs and events that all are welcome to attend. We do not provide art education for adults.
