Home is Near and Far Away – Opening Night

Home is Near and Far Away is a series of works created from reflections on Chris Harrison’s journey to Dakar, Senegal for an artist residency in 2018. Being present in and learning about the history of Senegal inspired Harrison to explore the connections between his ancestral homeland and the African diasporic experience. The works range from abstract landscapes to figurative pieces. Says Harrison, “I feel that the format of abstraction is reductive; this allows the viewer to contemplate on the emotions of loss, struggle, and resilience of Black culture through the overlay of shape, color, and collaged materials. The goal of the work is to have viewers connect to stories of the Black experience as I had through my life-changing exodus.”

Tickets required for opening night on Friday, March 5.
