VALTA free, comprehensive visual arts introductory training course
Our Visual Art Literacy Training (VALT) program provides a comprehensive hands-on arts education for youth ages 12-21.
A free, comprehensive visual arts introductory training course
VALT is a free introductory and comprehensive drawing course for 12-21 year olds, taught by working artists, which focuses on developing skills in young artists. To adhere to COVID guidelines and still provide our free program, this summer we are offering a seven-week session of Hybrid VALT: a shortened version of our regular VALT class (similar to Virtual VALT) with an opportunity to participate in person OR virtually.
For Hybrid VALT, in-person and online will be taught simultaneously as one class, and students will choose one way to participate for the whole Summer 2021 session: in person (as capacity allows) or virtually on Zoom. The class is free and all materials will be provided by JXTA, regardless of how you participate. Interested youth between the ages of 12-21 with all levels of drawing abilities are encouraged to fill out the VALT application below.
In Hybrid VALT students learn variety of drawing skills through 3 projects; contour drawings, portraits and comic characters.
Summer Hybrid VALT (7 weeks):
July 12th – August 26th
Tuesdays & Thursdays – 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Zoom Info Sessions (must attend to participate):
Tuesday, July 6th at 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday July 7th at 5:00 p.m.
(Zoom links will be sent prior to Info Session)
**Note: we will not be holding interviews for apprenticeships following Hybrid VALT.**
JXTA is committed to ensuring the health and well being of our community; we are monitoring the situation around COVID-19 closely.
