Comprehensive arts training and employment for youth
At JXTA, we place a high value on learning by doing because we know young artists learn and grow in their core competencies through experiences. We provide a safe space, mentorship, professional and creative connections, as well as tools for young people to practice the critical skill of turning their creative ideas into fully-realized art and design products.

Covid-19 Update
Due to the uncertainty around Covid-19 and keeping in mind the health and safety of our community, we have updated our plans for Fall 2020 programming. We are taking this time to evaluate our programs and youth employment pathways through a strategic planning process, and have paused VALT for the fall. Additionally, all JXTALabs are practicing safe social distancing, wellness checks, and staggered and/or hybrid (online and in-person) schedules. Please keep an eye out for updates on upcoming classes and youth employment entry points for youth in early 2021.
For more information about our response to this ongoing situation and the impact on our programs, please visit the web pages corresponding to the sessions you are interested in.
Visual art literacy training
Our Visual Art Literacy Training (VALT) program provides a comprehensive hands-on arts education for youth ages 12-21.

free wall
Free Wall is a free introductory 3-week summer camp in which students learn the history and techniques of aerosol writing with local masters of the medium.

JXTALabs paid youth apprenticeships
Young adults ages 14-21 are trained and employed in year-round apprenticeships in art and design. Apprentices are trained and mentored by adult practicing artists, designers, and architects in five revenue-earning production studios, or JXTALabs.

pathways to college & careers
Our Pathways to College and Careers (PaCC) program offers workshops, internships, portfolio and resume support, and travel opportunities to JXTA apprentices. Through these experiences, youth are able to explore who they are, define where they want to go, and lay out a pathway to get there.
