Creative Solution

In 2018, the Guthrie Theater received an Arts Access grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board intended to foster relationships between the theater and nonprofit organizations in North Minneapolis. The Guthrie hired JXTA to design and install a large-scale sculpture on their 9th floor Pohlad lobby. The leads on the project were apprentices D’Angelo Raymond (19) and Temesgen Besha (20), who worked with the Guthrie team to design an installation inspired by the nearby Mississippi River and the architecture surrounding the Guthrie. Designed over a period of two months, fabricated in collaboration with our partners Solid Metal Arts in three weeks, and installed on May 10, 2019, Luminous Current is now on view to the public and all visitors of the Guthrie Theater.
