During the summer of 2017, the JXTA Public Art & Murals team painted a new mural on the South-facing wall of our 2007 Emerson Avenue North Gallery space. Building on the momentum of 3 years celebrating Black August, the team combined JXTA’s place-making mission with a large-scale public art piece paying tribute to the ideals and ideas of the Black Liberation Movement. This new mural imagines black life beyond surveillance and policing, while referencing the aesthetic style of Aaron Douglas.
